Dig Out Your Soul is the seventh studio album by Oasis.

Oasis are an English rock band that formed in Manchester in 1991. The group was formed by Liam Gallagher (vocals), Paul Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass) and Tony McCarroll (drums), who were soon joined by Liam’s older brother Noel Gallagher (guitar and vocals). Oasis have sold over 50 million records worldwide, have had eight UK number-one singles and have collected 15 NME Awards, 5 Brit Awards and 9 Q awards. The Gallagher brothers are the band’s leading songwriters and the only continual members. The present lineup is completed by guitarist Gem Archer and bassist Andy Bell, as well as unofficial drummer Chris Sharrock.

Oasis, one of the most commercially successful rock bands in history, joins Warner Bros (for North America) for the iconic British band’s seventh studio album (produced by Dave Sardy), Dig Out Your Soul. The group’s first album since 2005′s Don’t Believe The Truth, Dig Out Your Soul marks a new sound for Oasis. Hailed as the band’s best work in a decade, Dig Out Your Soul offers a musical oasis for rock fans everywhere!

Dig Out Your Soul is their best work since “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?” and “Be Here Now”. Oasis is back in total firing form in this album. The songs were great, especially the single “The Shock of the Lightning”. Reminds me a lot about “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star” and “Supersonic”. It will really hit you hard. The album generated a lot of positive reviews. Just bloody fantastic! It’s that good. I’m a big fan!  Enjoy!

In Noel Gallagher’s June 15, 2008 talkSPORT interview, presenter Andy Goldstein said he had heard a few tracks and that he thought it was some of the best work the band had ever done.

Jonathan Cohen of Billboard says that with Dig Out Your Soul, the group “[Gets] back to its stripped-down rock roots” and that the opening song, “Bag it Up” harks back to Definitely Maybe’s “Columbia”.

Luke Bainbridge of The Observer gave the album 4 stars out of 5, saying “You could say that if Definitely Maybe was their Stone Roses, Dig Out Your Soul is their Second Coming. It won’t win them any new fans, but those that believed the truth last time will dig this.

The album also received more great reviews after several days from its official release, with critics arguing that Dig Out Your Soul is “Oasis sounding as pumped and as hard as they’ve ever been” and that “it seems Oasis have made something that can happily play along side Morning Glory.”

In the UK, the album sold 90,000 copies on its first day of release, making it the second fastest selling album of 2008, behind Coldplay’s Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends.
