X-47B UCAS Killer Drone: First Flight In Fall 2009

The first of two $300 million drones is now complete, and is scheduled for a maiden flight sometime in 2009. Unlike the Predator and Reaper drones which are remotely operated, the UCAS is designed from the ground up to be autonomous. It’s going to have to get checked out on things like aerial refueling and carrier landings.

The X-47B wing span is an impressive 62.1 ft, compared to 44.7 ft. for an F/A-18. Wings fold in to reduce overall span to 30.9 ft. for stowage.
